June is Men’s Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month. A time we encourage all men to focus on their health, whether that be an annual visit to their healthcare provider or checking in on their mental health.
It is important to see healthcare providers annually. In addition to assessing current health status, providers can perform routine screenings such as blood pressure checks and BMI to watch for potential health issues. In addition, they may draw labs to check cholesterol, blood glucose and any testing specific to health history. Depending on age, providers will schedule routine screenings such as colonoscopy, prostate, bone density and may suggest screenings such as Planet Heart.
Equally important to physical health is mental health. Mental is health still seems to be a silent crisis affecting men of all ages and the signs often go unnoticed. According to the CDC, mean are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide than women. Small steps to care for mental health can lead to great strides in ending the stigma and normalizing mental health care.
Encourage the men in your life (dads, husbands, brothers, uncles and sons) to take charge of their health so they can enjoy more family time for years to come!
